We celebrated Armed Forces and Veterans Day here at the Port Arcades on 29th June. Our shoppers enjoyed joining with local veterans to demonstrate support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.
Families enjoyed sitting in the cockpit of a replica Red Arrow Hawk Jet and a Green Goddess Fire Engine, listening to popular wartime songs from singers Blue Sapphire, and learning about both world wars through the vast displays of wartime memorabilia. The Royal Mercian regiment attended along with Army, Sea and Air Cadets from the town. Cadets and staff from 1074 (Ellesmere Port) Squadron formed the guard of honour for assembled dignitaries to give thanks to the armed forces, which included Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, Brigadier John Thomson, Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Michael Edwardson, and MP Justin Madders.
